Protects Pohnpeian cultural heritage, traditional practices, historic sites, and oversees social welfare programs and community services.

Social Services, Cultures, Traditions and Historic Preservation.  The Standing Committee on Social Services, Cultures, Traditions and Historic Preservation shall has nine members.  This Committee has purview over matters pertaining to social services, youth and juvenile affairs, sports, domestic relations, women’s interests, senior citizens, the traditions, cultures and customs of Pohnpei and all aspects of the impact of traditions, cultures and customs on the lives of our citizens, including traditional and cultural affairs, historic preservation of sites and artifacts and cultural, customary and traditional events.  This Committee shall also have oversight responsibilities as to the Division of Social Services of the Department of Health Services and the Division of Historic Preservation of the Department of Land. It considers and reports on all bills, resolutions, financial requests, and other matters referred to it by the Legislature or within its oversight jurisdiction.
