Legislative public hearings are a vital part of the policy decision making process where the opportunity is given to relevant government agencies, stakeholders, and citizens to contribute their voices before decisions are made. Committees hold hearings to gather information, understand different perspectives, hear directly from those who will be directly involved in the implementation process of the laws, and from those who will be affected by proposed legislation.
WHO CAN ATTEND PUBLIC HEARINGS
Attendees at public hearings are invited by the Committee. Although anyone is welcome to sit in and listen to proceedings in public hearings, providing oral testimony is limited to attendees who have been officially invited. Written opinions and perspectives are done at the request of the Committee or attending witnesses.
Hearing schedules are posted on this website and at the Legislature building in advance. Notices include the date, time, location, and topics or bills to be discussed.
